This picture of the Fort Wadsworth Light was taken in a good rain. We went to the spring meeting of the New Jersey Lighthouse Society which met on the old base at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island. This was the third lighthouse built on the fort, built originally in 1902. The light was in use until the construction of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, which made the light obsolete.
To get to Fort Wadsworth, get on route 278 east, in Staten Island. Follwo the signs for the last exit on Staten Island. Take this exit and follow signs for Bay Street. Stay to the right, make a right and you will be at the gaurd gate to Fort Wadsworth. Drive straight until you pass building 210. After building 210, make a left and follow the road to the scenic overlook. The lighthouse will be below you.
